Nicolaus Copernicus University’s Collegium Minus (arch. Jerzy Wierzbicki) - an avant-garde building called Harmonica. The Vesta Insurance Society’s residential house (arch. K. and W. Sylwestrowicz) - this house was used in 1945 to accomodate lecturers of the Stefan Batory University who emigrated from Vilnius. The Seashore Horticulture and Industry Exhibition Hall (arch. Kazimierz Ulatowski), at the time the largest hall in Poland, whose white walls, according to the press of the time, “beautifully reflect the colourful carpet of flowers and green trees”. In Toruń, we will look for similarities with Kaunas. More than 500 modernist buildings were built here between the wars. The long, narrow building of the Municipal Office and the Savings Bank looks like a spaceship landing on the edge of the old town. The top floor of the Vesta Insurance Building offers the most beautiful panorama of Toruń. We will visit the restorer Anna Kosicka. Her father, a history lecturer at Vilnius Stefan Batory University, was forced to leave Vilnius for Toruń in 1945. “My father, a Polish historian, longed terribly for Vilnius, but he had to leave.”
