Monument to the 10th anniversary of Lithuania’s independence, for the construction of which the residents of Rokiškis raised 30,000 litas. The monument stood throughout the entire Soviet era.

Probably the most expensive railway station in the interwar period, Rokiškis railway station cost 900,000 litas, and was designed by Edmundas Frykas. Let us look inside and see that plenty of authenticity has been preserved.
An exceptional opportunity to see the Žalioji School in Obeliai, which is now already demolished. We enter through a window. The wooden Kipras Petrauskas Primary School reminds of a resort villa. Kipras Petrauskas’ brother Mikas organised a concert in the town and donated the money he received (500 litas) to the construction of a new school.
As the number of children in Rokiškis grew and they could no longer fit into the four existing schools, a new gymnasium was built, which also had a doctor’s office. The school was named after Juozas Tumas-Vaižgantas, born in Rokiškis.
The Zametas family house is a 3-storey building with two small towers, owned by the richest family in Rokiškis, who founded the company “Litmetal”. In the house of Antanas Ščiuka, there was a hotel Lietuva, a cinema Lyra and a dental technician’s office. House of Gandelmanas. The Bank of Lithuania branch building, built by landlord Matas Kiela.

During the Soviet times, a commission was thinking what to do with the independence monument. The residents of Rokiškis came up with a clever idea: from the West there is a Lithuanian soldier standing, supposedly protecting against the evil of the West, and from the East the sun rises - supposedly a virgin welcoming the Stalin’s sun. Of course, the sun cross was plastered over.

The architectural axis of Rokiškis, the manor house and the church, has formed a distinctive central part of the town. The church and the manor house face each other a kilometre away.

There were many children in the Obeliai Primary School, close to a thousand, there were three 8th forms with 42 pupils each. Many doctors, officers, and pilots graduated from this school.
