A window to the world of interwar Poland.
Bank employees’ apartment building (arch. Stanisław Ziołowski) - the largest and most modern building in Poland at the time. Port of Gdynia (eng. Tadeusz Wenda) - the largest port on the Baltic Sea between the wars. Marine Passenger Terminal (arch. Dyckerhoff & Widmann) - where emigrants sailed on transatlantic ships. Port warehouse No 5 (eng. Konstantyn Jaskulski).
In Gdynia, there is Kaunas street, followed by Varėna, Druskininkai, and Klaipėda, and on the other side, Algirdas, Vytautas and Gražina streets. We will hear that the history of Gdynia began with the Carthusian monastery. One of the first underground garages in Poland was built next to the Bank employees’ apartment building. The glass-and-reinforced concrete dome of the Gdynia Port Passenger Terminal is just 6 cm thick. At that time, lift- operators in red jackets with gold buttons in the luxurious houses greeted people. The vertical (riser) of the modern staircase was called the “thermometer”. We will visit a hideaway-museum created by the inhabitants themselves.
According to the press at the time, architects in Gdynia “built ships on land out of bricks and cement”.
