Some of the buildings on Vilų Street were built before the First World War and others during the interwar years.
The Herder Gymnasium, which reflects the German face of Šilutė, is decorated with special symbols, while Vydūnas Gymnasium was built as a contrast to the prevailing German culture.
The Evangelical Lutheran Church in Šilutė not only has the largest tower clock in Lithuania but its interior also fascinates with its unusual colours. A unique fresco by the artist Richard Pfeifer caused outrage during the interwar period. Hugo Scheu Museum and the Šišioniškės (Prussian Lithuanian) dialect.
